Dear All,
Praise and glory to God as “we wait for the blessed hope-- the glorious
appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.” The second quarter
was a beauty of encouragement in many ways. Our God is faithful. When He set
anyone on a path, He will be ahead, with and behind the person. He has
faithfully been with us in all these ways!
Our Sunday services, Bible
studies and prayer meetings are going well. But we are aware that we will not
be long in this place; hence, we are praying that the Lord will direct our next
move as He has done for us so that we will not lose our focus on the main goal
of worshiping Him.
We are increasing (ten more
people added) in number. Also it is becoming a little easier to distinguish
those who are earnestly seeking God, and those who need a little more help in recognizing
their need of, and direction to the Savior. But the hunger for God in people’s
hearts is unmistakable! The 14 years tragic civil conflict that engulfed us in
this country is a huge contributing factor among many others, to the cause of
the insanity we are currently experiencing. But also the condition of the
natural (without God) human heart is desperately
wicked. But praise be to Jesus who is LORD over all (natural and
supernatural)!
The number of people streaming
now for counseling is overwhelming. Twenty people are scheduled for weekly
counseling plus about five unscheduled appointments, while eleven more are
anxiously seeking weekly schedule. It is
not only people in the church, but also people from other churches, and people
in the community as well. When I began
the counseling practice, I had to run after clients, but now, I’m forced to
turn down clients. It has been, and still is one of the most difficult things
for me, but I know I have to turn down others in order to truly help some
people.
One of the challenges I’m
facing with some clients is directing them to the only Savior Jesus Christ,
instead of seeking a substitute. But
many people seek a power they can interact with and see supernatural things
demonstrated. One morning a young man was brought to me for counseling. During our session, he revealed that he was
on his way to see a voodoo priest who had convinced him that someone was after
his life. The priest had requested some
items as requirements in order to destroy the life of the person who was supposedly
after him. He worked hard and obtained the
items and was on his way to the priest that morning when, through God’s
miraculous intervention, we met before he could leave. After about two hours of discussion, he verbalized
that he was convinced God had prevented him from meeting the priest and
committing murder or getting himself entangled in devil worship. But he expressed fears and concerns that his
life was still endangered by the man he
wanted to use the voodoo priest to kill; and also that the voodoo priest may
likely come after him as well for not coming through with his requirements for
the voodoo work. After some time of discussing
Scriptures regarding his situation, he told me he was convinced that God can,
and will protect him considering the miraculous circumstances that led to our
meeting, rather than meeting with the voodoo priest that morning. His attitude toward me became more like I am a
mini-savior. I’m still clarifying to him
that I’m NO mini-savior; and that he must understand who the Savior truly is, before
we can proceed with further counseling.
Our meeting is irregular and infrequent due to the many engagements and
number of clients I’m currently seeing.
I’m praying for wisdom to know how to plan and work through activities.
Many of our members are
needy. Some can barely afford their
daily meals. They work for others and
live on the commission they get from the sales.
If they don’t sell, they have no meal for that day. Many come to the church hoping to find some
solution to their plight. So we have decided to find some ways to reach out to
these people. I will send an update soon about what we are doing in regard to
this.
My daily ministry activities continue
to increase. I am praying that the Lord will increase staff, prayer and
financial supporters for the work.
“Rebuild Africa,” a Christian
organization here conducted a pastoral mental health counseling workshop. I was privileged to work with them as one of
the presenters. With the exception of me, all their presenters were from the
United States. It lasted for a total of
four days. Between 40 to 60 pastors
participated. 17 of these pastors signed
up for a regular pastoral counseling supervision or peer-supervision. I was
given the responsibility to head this supervision program. We are still working on the organization of
the program. I am highly delighted to be
involved with such a program. It affords
me the opportunity to minister to larger and diverse groups.
Thank you all for your
prayers. They are a huge part of this ministry. Please keep them going to the Throne of Grace. And please let us know how we also can lift
you up in our prayers.
I am grateful and thankful to
the Lord for providing me with a beautiful new laptop. Our God is a faithful provider!
